eCommerce Brand Integration Make.com eCommerce Automation

Shopify wired to GoHighLevel
without the
plan upgrade.

An eCommerce brand needed Shopify store activity flowing into GoHighLevel for cart recovery and repeat-buyer marketing - but their base-tier Shopify plan didn’t support native integration, and upgrading wasn’t worth the cost. We engineered a custom data bridge on free Webhooks and Make.com that delivered the same outcome.

eCommerce Brand.

The client was an eCommerce brand running their store on Shopify, who needed store activity connected to GoHighLevel to power marketing automation - specifically abandoned cart recovery and repeat buyer identification.

The catch: their base-tier Shopify plan didn’t natively support GoHighLevel integration, and upgrading the plan just to unlock that feature meant a recurring monthly cost the client didn’t want to take on.

They needed a smart, cost-effective alternative that delivered the same outcome without a platform upgrade.

What was broken.

The compounding operational gaps that made the status quo unsustainable.

01
Shopify plan restriction.
The client’s base-tier Shopify plan didn’t include native GoHighLevel integration, blocking a direct connection between the platforms.
02
No abandoned cart recovery.
Without a Shopify-to-GoHighLevel connection, there was no automated way to follow up with shoppers who added to cart but didn’t buy.
03
No repeat buyer identification.
The marketing team had no automated way to tag and segment repeat customers for targeted campaigns in GoHighLevel.
04
Manual workarounds didn’t scale.
Tracking customer behaviour and purchase history by hand across two disconnected platforms was unsustainable as order volume grew.
05
Missed revenue opportunities.
Without automated triggers tied to shopper behaviour, valuable marketing touchpoints - cart views, abandoned checkouts, repeat purchases - were missed entirely.

What we built.

We engineered a custom data bridge using Shopify’s native Webhook functionality and Make.com to replicate the outcomes of a native integration - with no Shopify plan upgrade. Webhooks capture store events, Make.com processes and routes them into GoHighLevel, and automated tagging drives cart recovery and repeat-buyer sequences.

The architecture.

How the system is wired, end to end.

Make.com / Shopify → GoHighLevel Data Bridge
[ Shopify - Any Plan Tier ]
Free built-in Webhooks capture store events
↪ Cart adds, checkouts, orders, product views
[ Make.com Automation Layer ]
Listens for Shopify Webhook triggers
Processes + routes data into GoHighLevel
[ GoHighLevel Layer ]
Abandoned Checkout tag → triggers recovery sequence
Purchase count field → repeat buyer detection
Custom field mapping - clean, structured data
[ Outcome ]
→ Native-integration results, zero upgrade cost
01

Webhook-powered data bridge.

Leveraged Shopify’s free built-in Webhook feature - available on all plan tiers - to capture key store events and route them through Make.com into GoHighLevel in real time, bypassing the paid native integration.

02

Make.com automation framework.

Built a structured Make.com automation that listens for Shopify Webhook triggers, processes the incoming data, and updates the relevant contact records and fields in GoHighLevel automatically.

03

Abandoned cart tagging & recovery.

When a shopper adds items but doesn’t complete the purchase, the system tags them in GoHighLevel with an “Abandoned Checkout” tag - capturing product name, order amount, and item count - which instantly triggers the recovery email sequence.

04

Repeat buyer detection.

The integration tracks each customer’s purchase count via a custom field in GoHighLevel, incrementing it with every order. Once the count passes two, the contact is tagged a repeat buyer and enrolled in a loyalty or upsell sequence.

05

Product view tracking & field mapping.

Extended the Webhook setup to capture product view events for additional targeting data, and mapped all key Shopify data points to dedicated GoHighLevel custom fields for clean segmentation and reporting.

What changed.
